performance studies

in flute, guitar, mandolin, piano, percussion, violin, and voice

soundSCAPE offers young performers the opportunity to collaborate with living composers. In addition to private lessons and masterclasses with performance faculty, students will coach with the composer of their assigned piece, culminating in the world premiere performance. Interested students may also be assigned to a chamber group for additional performances at the festival.

The soundSCAPE experience fosters meaningful relationships between students and professionals in the field. Performer/composer coachings, faculty rehearsals, and meetings of the Composer Colloquium are all open to participants in performance studies. Daily workshops cover improvisation, performance techniques, repertoire, various world musics, career planning, and networking. Evening concerts feature faculty and distinguished guest artists, with final performances of the festival reserved for participant performers. Selected participants will have the additional opportunity of performing on regional festival showcase concerts, which will be broadcast throughout Italy on radio, and via live web-stream.

Vocalists will be assigned roles in concert stagings of chamber opera. There are also opportunities for voice with small ensemble, and art song with piano. All students in performance studies may enroll in daily Italian lessons, and a trip to see an opera production at La Scala in Milan.
