arrival/departure

arrival
        Events start on 15 July at 7pm; check-in begins
        the same day from noon to 6pm. Plan to fly into
        Malpensa (Milan) airport. There is a direct bus
        to Pavia, or a bus to the train station in Milan to
        catch the Pavia-bound train.

departure
        The last festival event (final concert) is late
        Thursday night, 24 July. This is also the last night
        of accommodation; check-out is on Friday.
        Please do not plan to leave before 25 July.

housing

Participants will be housed in various Colleges
        (dormitories) of the prestigious University of
        Pavia; one of Europe’s oldest universities.
        Accommodations are shared; 2 per room.

An additional €499 fee is charged for participants
        who wish to share their accommodation with a
        spouse or significant other. The fee includes
        room and three meals per day only (no festival
        events aside from concerts, which are free).

payment of tuition

Payment of tuition and all fees must be made in full
by 30 April 2008 (may be extended if waiting on
outside scholarships/financial aid).

Tuition does NOT cover: airfare, passport fees,
transportation to/from festival, activities/entertainment
during scheduled free periods, laundry, phone charges,
supplementary maid service, any meals/hotel/transport
due to airline scheduling, train strike, delays, etc.

performance opportunities

venues
        Performances will take place in a beautiful hall
        located in the town center.

afternoon concerts
        Reserved for participant performers selected by
        the faculty to perform substantial works of the
        last century.

radio broadcasts
        Select concerts may be broadcast nationally on
        the radio, and also via live-streaming video
        on the web.

practicing/composing/lessons

Practice rooms (with pianos) are available
throughout the day and into the early evening hours.

Composers are encouraged to bring a laptop (Finale/
Sibelius software), and are free to compose about the
grounds, in a practice room with a piano, or about the
city.

Lessons are scheduled every-other day, with each
participant receiving a minimum combination of
three lessons/master classes.

miscellaneous

free time
        Early in the week, a whole day will be
        reserved for sight-seeing in Milan. You may
        choose to attend an opera at La Scala.

        The Vittadini Institute of Music is located in
        the heart of Pavia, providing participants
        ample opportunity to experience the city.

internet
        There are various internet cafés within walking
        distance of the school and dormitories.

laundry
        clothes may be sent out to be laundered, or
        participants may do it themselves at laundries
        in the area.
