composition studies

Information on this page is for composers enrolling to attend the festival. Composers who are unable to attend, but interested in submitting their work, may do so here.

soundSCAPE offers composers the opportunity to coach musicians in the performance of their music. Coachings are mentored by festival faculty, with all sessions open to participants. In addition to private lessons with composition faculty, composers will also participate in the Colloquium, a daily forum featuring the music of festival colleagues. Daily workshops cover performance techniques, idiomatic writing, various repertoires, world musics, improvisation, career planning, and networking. Evening concerts feature faculty and distinguished guest artists, with final performances of the festival highlighting your music. Interested composers may enroll in daily Italian lessons, and a trip to see an opera production at La Scala in Milan. Select works will be featured on regional festival showcase concerts.

The program is primarily orientated toward undergraduate and graduate university students who are currently enrolled in a composition-degree program.
